Professional Orientation and Approach

How do we begin? We create a container. The foundation for our time will be exploring the context of your life (this is the person centered part). Why? So the work we do in a session works for you out of session.

I apply a wellness model through an integrated approach; which means, "not so much structure that we loose sight of the big picture." This is built on psychoanalytic and existential theories of counseling. Knowledge of one's past experience and development is central to understanding and making meaning of one's subjective world. There are a variety of approaches that can be applied in a counseling session; exploring past experience provides a foundation for our client-counselor relationship.

From an intervention standpoint, cognitive and dialectic behavioral approaches have a wealth of practical techniques for addressing a client’s ability to consciously manage actions, reactions, and emotional states. I additionally have found that EMDR, neurofeedback, mindfullness practices, and intentional social engagement can complement traditional talk-therapies to heal unconscious patterns.

I believe in the power of the individual to heal.

ABOUT YOU

Who I Work With

I work with individual adults in Washington State. Ideally, I like to work with people who are ready to make changes. I will admit, therapy is work. My favorite clients do their homework, are introspective, and are optimistic for their future. And yet, I know that's not usually how an individual arrives at an online search tool for counselors in their area. Sometimes we come across a description on a website and think, "Maybe, just maybe... this person will get it and can help me - because I have run out of solutions and there is no hope."

I have a background that affords me the ability to sit with hard lessons, traumatic events, and deep loss.

I do not believe in unforgivable acts, for where there is life, there is hope.

Let's do some of the heavy lifting together.
